Dog microchipping

Dog microchipping

The Welsh Government is considering introducing legislation that would require all dogs in Wales to be microchipped. The information relating to the microchip and ownership of the animal would be recorded on an approved database.

The key benefit of the proposed legislation would be to improve animal welfare by encouraging responsible ownership. It would also help in the re-unification of stray dogs with their owners. It would link in with the current proposal to require compulsory microchipping of all puppies and dogs in licensed dog breeding kennels.

A consultation on possible options will commence in May; the pack can be downloaded from the Welsh Government website - Animal Welfare, or you can receive a paper copy by contacting 02920 823477.
